What is a Qualified Environmental Professional (QEP)?

The term “Qualified Environmental Professional” or “QEP” broadly refers to an individual that is acting under their professional association’s code of ethics and subject to the organization's disciplinary action. QEPs can hold a variety of professional designations (e.g., professional biologist, engineer or forester). Each QEP acts within their area of specialization.

Most environmental assessments, such as Riparian Assessments, Bio-inventories, Invasive Species Management Plans, Restoration Plans, etc., are prepared by a Qualified Environmental Professional who is a Registered Professional Biologist (R.P.Bio.).

Qualified environmental professionals can conduct assessments as individuals or together with other qualified environmental professionals.
